How to Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to Travel Partners — A Family Travel Hacker's Guide
Transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points to travel partners is the single move that separates families who occasionally use points from families who fly business class to Europe for less than the cost of economy.
I'll be direct: If your family is booking all your travel through the Chase Travel Portal, you are likely leaving thousands of dollars in value on the table every single year.
Here's a real example from our family. We recently booked business class seats home from Europe for our family of 4 using Air France Flying Blue miles transferred from Chase Ultimate Rewards. The portal would have cost over 300,000 points one way per person. The transfer cost roughly 90,000 points per seat for each adult. And because Air France gives children ages 2-11 a 25% discount on award tickets, our kids' seats cost even less.
Same flight. Same seats. A fraction of the points. That's the power of transfer partners.

New to points and miles? Start here first:
WHY TRANSFERRING CHASE POINTS IS SO POWERFUL FOR FAMILIES
Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth 1 cent each in the travel portal at baseline. That's fine for solo travelers who can find good portal deals. For families, it's often not enough.
When you transfer to airline and hotel partners, you can routinely achieve 2, 3, or even 4+ cents per point in value. This is especially true on premium cabin flights and Hyatt hotel stays.
Here's why the math hits differently for families. A solo traveler getting 2 CPP on a business class seat saves a meaningful amount of points. A family of 4 getting 2 CPP on 4 seats saves 4x as many points, which is often the equivalent of hundreds of thousands of points in value on a single trip. Mastering transfer partners isn't optional for family travel hackers. It's essential.

WHICH CHASE CARDS CAN TRANSFER POINTS?
Not all Chase cards have transfer partner access. You need at least one of these in your wallet:
Transfer-eligible Chase cards:
Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business
What about Freedom and Ink Cash/Unlimited cards?
If you only have your points located on your Freedom or Ink Cash/Unlimited cards, then your points are NOT stuck. You just need to combine them into a transfer-eligible card first before you can access partners. So as long as you still have one of those transfer-eligible cards in your wallet, it doesn’t matter that you are generating more points on the freedom or ink cash/unlimited cards. I'll show you exactly how to do that transfer below.
This is actually a powerful family strategy. You can spread earning across multiple no-annual-fee cards like the Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited, then funnel all those points into your Sapphire or Ink Preferred cards for transfers. Our family earns points across multiple cards and combines everything before transferring.

⚠️ The most important rule about transfers: They are final and irreversible. Once you transfer points to a partner you cannot get them back. This is why confirming award availability BEFORE transferring is non-negotiable.
BEFORE YOU TRANSFER — CONFIRM AWARD SPACE FIRST
This is the golden rule and it becomes even more critical for families.
Finding one available business class award seat is relatively straightforward. Finding 4 seats together on the same flight at award rates is genuinely challenging and requires a different approach.
For flexible families — use PointsYeah's Daydream Explorer
When our dates are flexible I start by searching for destinations where 4 award seats are actually available. PointsYeah's Daydream Explorer lets you search for multiple seats simultaneously across programs and dates. This lets availability inspire our destination rather than fighting for space on a specific route.
For fixed dates or destinations — use Seats.aero alerts
When our destination or dates are fixed I set alerts on Seats.aero for 4 business class seats on specific routes. It monitors availability across multiple programs simultaneously and notifies me the moment space opens up.
Always search multiple departure airports
Flexibility on departure airport dramatically increases your family's chances of finding 4 seats together. I search every airport within reasonable driving distance of home, or a quick and cheap repositioning flight away. This has unlocked redemptions that would have been completely unavailable flying from a single airport.
The rule: confirm you can see exactly the seats you need, at exactly the points price you expect, and that you're ready to book immediately, THEN transfer. Not before.
HOW TO TRANSFER CHASE POINTS — STEP BY STEP
This process is identical on desktop and mobile.
1. Log into your Chase app or Chase.com
Open the card that earns Ultimate Rewards points.
2. Enter the Ultimate Rewards Portal
Scroll to your points balance and tap “Redeem” or “Ultimate Rewards.”
3. Select a transfer-eligible card
Make sure you’re in the dashboard for one of these:
• Sapphire Preferred
• Sapphire Reserve Personal or Business
• Ink Business Preferred
If not, switch cards at the top.
4. Choose “Transfer to Travel Partners”
You’ll see the full list of airlines and hotels.
5. Select your travel partner
Tap the airline or hotel you want to transfer to.
6. Link your loyalty account
This is your frequent flyer or hotel account.
If you don’t have one yet, create one, they’re all free.
7. Enter the amount of points to transfer
Chase transfers in 1,000-point increments, always at a 1:1 ratio.
8. Submit the transfer
Some partners transfer instantly.
Others can take a few hours or even a few days.

HOW TO COMBINE CHASE POINTS FROM MULTIPLE CARDS
This is essential for families who earn points across multiple Chase cards.
Go to your Ultimate Rewards dashboard
Scroll to "Combine Points"
Select the card you're transferring FROM (Freedom, Ink Cash, Ink Unlimited)
Select the card you're transferring TO (Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Business, or Ink Preferred)
Enter the amount and submit
Household transfers: Chase also allows you to transfer points to a family member's account. This requires a one-time phone verification with Chase before the feature is enabled. For families where one spouse holds the transfer-eligible card and the other holds earning cards this is an incredibly useful feature.
REAL FAMILY EXAMPLE — WHY TRANSFER PARTNERS BEAT THE PORTAL
Let me show you exactly what this looks like in practice for a family of 4.
Booking business class to Europe:
Chase Travel Portal cost: 200,000+ points one way per person — that's 800,000+ points for a family of 4.
Transfer to Air France Flying Blue: approximately 43,000 points per adult one way.
And here's the family-specific advantage most travel hackers miss — Air France gives children ages 2-11 a 25% discount on award tickets. So our kids' seats would cost roughly 32,000 points each instead of 43,000.
Total for our family of 4 one way: approximately 150,000 points instead of 800,000+.
That's the difference between one family trip to Europe and five.
This is the real-world impact of transfer partners for families. It's not a marginal improvement… It's a completely different category of value!

THE BEST TRANSFER PARTNERS FOR FAMILIES
Not all transfer partners are equal. Here are the ones I personally use most for our family and why:
Air Canada Aeroplan — my overall favorite for family travel
Free stopovers on one-way awards turn one trip into two destinations at no extra points cost.
Competitive business class rates to Europe on Star Alliance partners.
Frequent Chase transfer bonuses.
And because I hold the Aeroplan credit card I get a 10% bonus on Chase transfers of 50,000+ points, up to 25,000 bonus points per year. For a family moving large point balances, this rebate adds up significantly.
Air France Flying Blue — best for families with kids under 12
The 25% child discount on award tickets is a game changer that almost no travel site covers.
Always price out Flying Blue for your family specifically before assuming another program is cheaper.
You can frequently find transfer bonuses from Chase to Flying Blue.
Iberia Plus — cheapest transatlantic business class sweet spot
Off-peak award chart pricing offers some of the lowest point costs for US East Coast to Madrid business class.
Because Avios transfer freely between British Airways and Iberia, you can transfer Chase points to British Airways during a bonus, and then move to Iberia for the actual booking.
World of Hyatt — best hotel transfer partner for families
Hyatt's relatively fixed award chart often delivers 1.8-2.0+ CPP for luxury hotel stays.
For families who need larger rooms or suites at properties costing $500+ per night, Hyatt is almost always the right answer.
United MileagePlus — best for domestic and Star Alliance flexibility
No fuel surcharges, freely cancelable awards, and access to the entire Star Alliance network.
I often book United awards as placeholders while continuing to search for better options. Since cancellation is free, there's no risk.

WHEN NOT TO TRANSFER POINTS
Transfer partners aren't always the right answer. Don't transfer when:
You haven't confirmed award availability first
You aren't ready to book immediately after the transfer
The Chase Travel Portal Points Boost genuinely offers better value on your specific booking

FINAL THOUGHTS
Transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points is the move that takes your family from "we save a little on travel" to "we fly business class to Peru and Europe without paying cash prices."
The mechanics are simple once you've done it once.
The research (finding 4 seats, timing transfers with bonuses, knowing which partner to use for which trip) gets easier every time.
Start with one transfer. Confirm the award space first. Book immediately. And use the family-specific advantages like Air France's child discount and Aeroplan's free stopovers that most travel hackers don't even know exist.
Your family's next business class trip is closer than you think.
